Frequently Asked Questions1. I am an artist. Am I eligible for the Freedom to Create Prize?
The Freedom to Create Prize is open to all artists of any nationality and age, working in all creative fields whose works do all or one of the following: promote social justice, build the foundations for an open society and inspire the human spirit. Artists may enter in one of these Prize Categories.
2. What is an art form? Is painting an art form?
An art form is how an artistic work or activity is produced. It is the method used for artistic expression. Yes, painting is an art form. Other art forms include dance, creative writing, theatre, film, mime, music, photography, sculpture, installation art, pottery, graffiti, graphic design, architecture, calligraphy, etc.
3. What is the medium of an art work?
A medium is the material used to create and produce an art work. For example: oil paint, water colour, acrylic paint, spray paint, crayon, chalk, charcoal, ink, wood, plaster, bronze, bamboo, cloth, ceramic, glass, plastic, etc.

6. How do I submit a nomination?
You may submit a nomination on-line by clicking here.
7. Can I nominate myself?
Yes, artists may nominate themselves or a third party can nominate them.
8. I was nominated for the Freedom to Create Prize in the past year/s. Can I be nominated again?
Yes, previous entrants may be nominated again but the art work they are nominated for must be a different piece of art or a separate body of work.
9. What are referees?
A referee is an independent person who can recommend your work. They are people we will contact if we want to know more about your work.
10. Can I submit more than one piece of art work for consideration?
Yes, artists may be nominated for a single art work or a body of works but they may only submit one nomination entry per year.
11. What is the closing date for Prize nominations?
Nominations close on 15 August 2010. All completed forms, supporting documents, photographs, video and music files must be submitted by this date. Entries will not be accepted after this date.
12. When will we know the results of the Prize?
Only finalists will be notified by email on or before 27 October 2010. Winners will be announced on 18 November 2010.
