Addisalem created the 'To Live' series to address the role of women against the backdrop of the unstable social reality and economic hardship of modern day Ethiopia. The series is comprised of five oil paintings entitled To Learn, To Dominate, To Feed, To Drink, and To Live, and portray the desire for change in everyday life of women in Ethiopia. She effortlessly combines sophisticated imagery with the Ethiopian Christian painting tradition, as well as referencing the billboards and graffiti of contemporary Addis Ababa.
