Ahmad Y. A. Habash
Main Prize - 2009
This animation short centres on Fatenah, who dreams of a simple life in the Gaza Strip. When she discovers a lump near her breast, she begins a journey of torment, loss and pain. The story highlights the lack of medical facilities in the besieged Gaza Strip and the bureaucratic Israeli government which prevents the women from receiving life-saving treatment. Ahmad, the filmmaker, eloquently presents the struggle Gazans face in getting access to one of the most basic of human rights - health. The film tries to deliver the message that Gazans are more than just statistics or numbers - they, too, are human. Like every other human being, the 1.4 million population simply seeks the right to live, believes Ahmad.
