Beautiful Little Hands

Under the shadow of the Separation Wall at the Aida Refugee Camp in Palestine, 1,000 children were introduced for the first time to a key part of any childhood -- play. The camp has no playgrounds or green spaces and is surrounded on three sides by a 30 foot high separation wall. It is also subject to frequent incursion by the Israeli army. Our of the camp population, 66% are under the age of 18 and 45% under 15 years.

Al Rowwad conducted a series of workshops designed to provide the youth with the skills and knowledge to become productive and to be able to become resilient and positive in response to violence and the stress of the crowded, living conditions. The artistic programme will consist of theatrical creations, dance, painting, photography and video. The children will select an art form in which they can show positive images of themselves.

Highlight:

Five times more children flocked to the classes than anticipated.

Their artwork toured through Germany and brought attention to the conditions at Aida.
