Amadu Tarawallie

Main Prize - 2009
Between 1991 and 2001, around 50,000 people were killed in Sierra Leone's civil war and hundreds of thousands were displaced. Amadu's painting is an appreciation of the work of those who helped restore peace, democracy, good governance, the rule of law, freedom for all and protected the rights of women and children. He hopes that his work "marks the end of the 11-year civil crisis that devastated and ruined the entire country." Amadu says art is a passion as well as a discipline which has helped him serve his community and country.
