Creative Arts Programme

Gang culture has long dominated Cape Town. The phenomenon of children in organised armed violence is the legacy of a post-apartheid society and has been formed against a backdrop of a youthful South African population and high levels of poverty and unemployment.

This music and creative arts after-school programme gives 890 children an alternative to joining a gang. It offers a climate in which music, drama, dance and song stirs their interest and keeps them off the streets. The Foundation wrote, "The grant enabled us to make a difference in the lives of these young children. They can look forward to a brighter future and they have had experiences they otherwise would not have had."
