Neda - The Look

Artform: Music

When footage of Neda Agha-Soltans death during the 2009 election protests in Iran circulated around the world, she became a rallying point for the reformist opposition. Neda is a word used in Persian to mean voice, calling, or divine message, and she has been referred to as the voice of Iran. According to the nominating party, "This music is inspired by the innocent look that Neda had in her eyes in the very last moments of her life and how it delivered the message of all the protestors, so deep but in silence. The music is trying to deliver a thought that any young Iranian boy or girl can have in their mind and that is the need for peaceful freedom for every human. Neda - The Look, has become an underground anthem in Iran."
