From Sound to Image
Artform: Collage
Ommolbanin is one of an emerging group of women Afghan artists, based in Kabul. Her work is best described in her own words. "From Sound to Image represents the situation of my country," she says. "It is made up of two different parts. One is the lectures behind the microphones, the colourful talks on how some groups care about the lower class of the society. The second part is the poor condition of the people, and the suffering in society. The kind of graceful and joyful words behind the microphones (which the colourful bubbles represent), last for a very short period of time, she goes on. All these promises are just some unsteady words that are not guaranteed to happen. This is brought out on the other side, the painful and colourless results of the so-called promises."
