Stereo Man
Artform: Theatre
The theme for this theatre piece is the torment the central male characters experience in Vietnamese society due to their homosexuality. The ensemble cast say the play represents all that cannot be seen in a man. The piece opens with a general introduction to the men, who move fast and uniformly, until one person separates himself from the group. This outsider feels something different that he can't share with anyone and wants to disguise. The play then takes the audience to the world of the other man in which he is addicted to drugs, is HIV positive, and discriminated and despised by society. The central message is: They are ordinary people, knowing work for living, having parents and family and above all others, they have love and deserve to be loved.
