Chaz Maviyane-Davies

This Zimbabwean-born graphic artist has used his talent to contradict the stereotypes surrounding Africa. "I could creatively look at our predicament through our own African lens and not only see human rights in terms of abuse, as the media do, but positively, as an integral part of the celebration of the human spirit, thereby emphasizing the cultural diversity that abounds us." His stunning poster series targets Zimbabwe's parliamentary elections to encourage the people to vote. The posters were emailed, sent as postcards, flyers and personal stamps. Chaz hopes that he has contributed with this positive use of design to raise awareness about the abuse and violations of human rights being perpetrated in Zimbabwe.
