Emergency Biennale
Main Prize - 2009
The Emergency Biennale was conceived and developed in 2005 as a creative reaction to the destruction of a people and a culture in Chechnya. "The issues it raises are regarding our human responsibility as actors of both artistic and social life," say the organisers. It is the result of a series of questionings regarding some essential topics largely overlooked by the mainstream art world. More than 60 international artists have created two pieces of work - one is sent to Chechnya and the other to world cities in a mirror exhibition.
