Fadi Dabaja
Main Prize - 2009
Fadi's film focuses on the attempts of one couple to enjoy quality time together in the Palestinian refugee camp Bourj al Barajneh, outside Beirut, Lebanon. The constant noise and overcrowding play a central role in the film, which portrays the battle to create any kind of quality of life when surrounded by hardship, poverty and oppression. Fadi Dabaja, himself a Palestinian refugee, is a resident of the camp in which he has set his film. An experienced trainer in conflict resolution, he works for social change through the arts and strives for community-based resolutions to conflict and struggle. The public gave Fadi a postive reception, telling him "Yalla! Hurry up and use your camera! This is a great idea! Tell the world we want to live respectable lives, tell them were human, too!"
