The streets of Phnom Penh are filled with street children, a legacy of the brutal Khmer Rouge regime that destroyed families, livelihoods and systemically eliminated culture. As children head to the capital from the provinces, many turn to drugs and prostitution. Some contract HIV, others become orphans.

This safe space provides a creative outlet for about 1,200 street children who participate in dance, music and visual arts. Through these activities, the children can express repressed feelings, build their self-esteem and reconnect with their Khmer culture. They are also encouraged to put on public shows which were seen by almost 30,000 people in one year.

Highlight:

1,263 youths became integrated into schools and reunited with their families as a result of the project.

They performed before almost 30,000 people at their Phnom Penh center.
