Mo Maria Sarkis

'Arabia Erotika' aims to expose the oppression and discrimination faced by women in the Middle East. The artist has faced death threats and the possibility of exile due to the controversial themes and nature of her art. Mo Maria's art examines sexuality, identity and religion in the Middle East, concentrating on the female condition in oppressive societies. In her piece, 'Dedication to Lebanon', Mo fashioned a series of six paintings dominated by the colours, red and green. This is a reference to the colours of the Lebanese flag and heavily references the hidden nature of women living under the veil.
