Our 2010 Exhibitions

2010 - Harare

27 April – 2 May 2010
National Gallery of Zimbabwe

Works from the 2009 Freedom to Create Prize were exhibited at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare in conjunction with HIFA 2010.

HIFA is a six day annual festival and workshop programme that showcases the very best of African and international arts and culture in a comprehensive festival programme of theatre, dance, music, circus, street performance, spoken word and visual arts. Since its inception in 1999, the Festival has come to be seen as an important symbol of something positive about Zimbabwe, unifying socially and culturally disparate groups of Zimbabweans at a time of ideological conflict and political uncertainty. It brings huge audiences together to celebrate the healing and constructive capacity of the arts. HIFA is now the largest cultural event in Zimbabwe and among the eight major festivals in Africa.

The theme for HIFA 2010 was ABOUT FACE, signifying amongst many things: hope, transformation, new beginnings, optimism, a change of attitude and above all, the facing and acknowledgement of the past while looking forward to a brighter future.

Freedom to Create celebrates the power of creativity to drive social change and was a proud partner of HIFA 2010 in showcasing selected entries from the 2009 Freedom to Create Prize.
