Our 2010 Exhibitions

2010 - Kabul

1 June – 22 June 2010
Bagh-e-Babur, Afghanistan

An exhibition of photo-documentary works from the 2009 Freedom to Create Prize was presented at the Queen’s Palace complex in Bagh-e-Babur (or Babur Gardens) in Kabul, Afghanistan. 5,000 visitors visited the exhibition over a three week period.

The Freedom to Create Prize has traditionally received strong entries from Afghanistan such as visual artist Sheenkai Alam Stanikzai who was the second runner up of the 2009 Main Prize and Mobile Mini Circus for Children, a finalist of the 2008 Youth Prize.

We were delighted to bring the Prize exhibition to a historic site in Afghanistan where the stories of our participants could reach and inspire the citizens of Kabul. The sixteenth-century Bagh-e-Babur is where the first Mughal Emperor Babur is buried. Recently restored, the 11-hectare garden not only re-establishes the historic character of the site but also provides the people of Kabul with a space for recreation and cultural events.
