2011 Commended Artists

With a grand total of 2,051 applications received from over 145 countries for the 2011 Freedom to Create Prize, we have registered the highest number of entries to date. The artists who have been shortlisted for their highly commended entries include some of the most prominent civilian voices of the pro-democracy uprisings that have swept North Africa and the Middle East in 2011, brave female artists from Africa and daring social activists from South East Asia.
