Our 2011 Exhibitions

2011 - Xiamen

19 – 24 September 2011
Xiamen International Conference & Exhibition Centre

Freedom to Create made its debut in China on 19 September 2011, via an inaugural Freedom to Create Exhibition held in tandem with the 33rd ITI World Congress in Xiamen. The Exhibition showcased a special compilation of artworks by participants of the 2010 Freedom to Create Prize which focused on issues that impact the empowerment of women.

In a twenty first century world, thriving institutions, developed as well as developing nations and successful businesses recognise that women are indispensable change agents and catalysts for progressive development. However, in many countries, women have fewer opportunities than men to contribute to society through creative self expression, whether in the arts, entrepreneurship or political leadership. They lack access to education and opportunity.

Freedom to Create believes that it is only when women can contribute their energy, talents and expertise that communities will truly flourish and empowered women will create prosperity for future generations.

Empowering women means harnessing the female multiplier force and enabling them to become drivers of inclusive prosperity, yielding asymmetrical returns for themselves, their families and society at large. Unleashing women’s creativity enables them to become producers and contributors to global prosperity. Their insights and ideas are what will accelerate the progress of Tomorrow's World.

Combining powerful artworks with important messaging, the Freedom to Create Exhibitions bring global issues to local communities, and are a manifestation of how creativity is being used to drive social change around the world. Central to our work is the belief that communities themselves hold the power to creatively address and find solutions to the issues that our exhibitions bring to light.

Previous Freedom to Create Exhibitions have been held in London, New York, Harare, Kabul, Cairo, Mumbai and Sarajevo, where the exhibition has enjoyed tremendous success and acclaim.
