Theatre for Children - Art and Education

Sector: Social Harmony

For over 25 years, the Albanian and Serb communities in Kosovo have struggled to break down social divides caused by the nationalistic politics which culminated in the 1999 Kosovo War. It is the younger generation bearing the brunt of this informal segregation, with many not even allowed to play with their respective peers.

Center for Children's Theatre Development aims to advance and promote modern theatre for children, emphasizing its educational and social role. In this project they train talented youths from different ethnic groups to write a play voicing their desires for peace. They then tour the production in the rural areas of Kosovo, as well as in strategic towns in Macedonia and Albania, to educate youths on child rights, democracy and peace.

Highlight: To inspire youths using theatre to build their understanding towards other communities to foster social harmony within the region.
