Ruby Yang
Main Prize - 2008
Ruby Yang won an Oscar for her documentary, 'The Blood of Yingzhou'. The film examines the devastating impact of the AIDS epidemic on children in rural China. Thousands have been orphaned or are living in families where one or both parents suffer from the disease. The stigmatisation surrounding HIV/AIDS has led to the social and political ostracisation of these families and the denial of their human rights.
