Sanam Enayati

Main Prize - 2009
Currently based in the USA, Sanam Enyati’s art investigates Iran’s current society, beliefs, principles and its relation to tradition and the globalised world. Her series of six mixed-media paintings explores the moment in which one’s mind is distressed by the immediate reality and how it struggles to free itself in search of truth. This search finds her isolated from her history with no way back except through imagining what life was like behind those old windows of a world past. This is a soul that is separated from her true self and is lost and afraid in the life of the modern century. Sanam incorporated contemporary Persian poet Sohrab Sepehri’s poem “To the Companion’s Orchard” within the paintings to represent the soul’s voice reaching out to the viewer.
