Scott Harrison

Main Prize - 2008
Unsafe drinking water and a lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of all sickness and disease and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, even war. Of the 42,000 deaths that occur every week from these water issues, 90% are children under the age of five. Through photography, Scott aims to increase awareness about the worldwide water crisis and inspire people to find solutions to solve it.

“Amazing images! I would like to hang the sixth image of the smiling child with the water in their hand on my wall! What an emotion. I have a connection with your images because I travelled through Kenya, Tanzania, and Malawi 13 years ago and saw first-hand the water crisis. This is such a major problem people in first-world countries don't comprehend. Good luck with your work.”
