Stereo Man
Main Prize - 2009
This piece of theatre's theme is the torment the central male characters experience in Vietnamese society due to their homosexuality. The ensemble cast say the play represents all that cannot be seen in a man. The piece opens with a general introduction to the men, who move fast and uniformly, until one separates himself from the group. This outsider feels something different that he cannot share with anyone and wants to disguise. The play then takes the audience to the world of the other man in which he is addicted to drugs, is HIV positive, and discriminated against and despised by the rest of society. The central message is: these men are all ordinary people, working for their living, with parents and family and most of all, they can love and deserve to be loved.
