UGATLahi Artist Collective

Main Prize - 2008
The state-sanctioned human rights violations occurring in the Philippines has motivated this Collective to use giant papier-mâché figures to represent the discontent of the people. During colonial times, Filipinos would construct these larger-than-life caricatures and burn them to express their frustrations. This cultural form of non-violence expression has been resurrected for today's tensions.
